With the 23rd annual Turkey Trot set for Thanksgiving Day, active Austinites are beginning to get excited about getting together and having some family fun for a good cause. The Trot—hosted by the good folks at Thundercloud Subs—features a five-mile run, one-mile walk, and a Kids’ K, and all proceeds raised from the “largest five-mile run in Texas” go to Caritas of Austin.
The event has raised over $1.8 million for Caritas over the course of its twenty-two year history, but with more than 23,000 participants expected to flood The Long Center this Thanksgiving Day, Thundercloud’s owners are hopeful that this can be the most successful Trot yet. Registration is currently open, and prices range from $8 (for the Kids’ K) to $30 (for the timed five-mile race). Tickets for the annual Turkey Trot raffle are still available, as well, and all participants are encouraged to show their support and enter their names for a chance at taking home the grand prize—a brand new Honda Accord.
Awards will be given to the first, second, and third-place male and female runners, as well as the top three men and women of each age group. In addition, awards will also be given to the best costumes, first-place team, and a variety of other categories. Take a look at the video below to get an idea of what will be in store at The Long Center this Thanksgiving!
