Tips for Staying Safe During Spring Break

With spring break right around the corner, there are many things to be cautious and aware of during your break. Obviously, you should have a blast and enjoy yourself, but, at the same time, you should definitely take some precautions in order to ensure that your break does not take a turn for the worse.

Here are some helpful tips to make sure your time is enjoyable and—above all else—safe.

Bring someone who doesn’t drink

Find a person in your group that does not drink alcohol at all; this way, you will not have to worry about anything happening to yourself or one of your friends. This person (or persons) can help watch out for the well-being of all of you and make sure that you don’t put yourselves into dangerous situations.

Stay aware of your surroundings

This one is pretty straightforward: just stay alert and aware of your surroundings. There is no reason that you cannot have a good time and still drink responsibly. Make a plan, stay close to your group of friends, and do not put yourself into unnecessarily sketchy situations. This is the safest thing you can do.

Go with people you trust

If you are headed to the beach with friends this spring break, make sure that you can trust everybody in your group. Obviously, though, you may not know everyone that you’re traveling with that well, and that’s okay; basically, just make sure that you stay sharp and make good decisions around unfamiliar people.

Use Your Thumb to Protect Your Drink

Each and every time you get a drink, make sure that it has a cap or can be capped. A good rule of thumb is to, well, use your thumb; for instance, if you are drinking out of a can or bottle, put your thumb in the opening after each sip so that no one has the opportunity to slip something into your drink. This happens way too often, and, while most people think it is safe to just keep your drink with you at all times, it only takes one glance away and you could find yourself in an unsafe and scary situation. Taking further precautions is worth it.

All of this to say: make sure you only have good memories to take home with you. Enjoy yourself, but at the same time, do your best to stay aware, alert, and safe. If you or a friend have a little too much fun and end up in jail – give us a call. We’ll get you out of jail fast!
