Danger on Austin’s Top-Ranking University Campus

Danger on Austin’s Most Prestigious Campus

Most people think that you can only get robbed in you’re in a bad part of town or traveling far from home. Surprisingly, people are robbed in familiar places.

If you were robbed at gunpoint near your college campus grounds, would you know what to do to stay alive?

On May 8, 2014 one University of Texas student found out the necessary steps to stay safe under the line of fire.

Between 21st Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in broad daylight, a white male robbed the student. Fortunately the student wasn’t injured.

Currently, the police are looking for a white male standing at 5’8’’, with curly blonde hair. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white sneakers.

4 Tips to Stay Safe on Campus

  1. Campus security is in place for a very good reason: to keep you and your fellow collegiate mates safe. Have your campus security’s phone number saved into your cell phone when you need to call for help.
  2. Walk with a group of friends or neighbors. There’s safety in numbers.
  3. At night avoid secluded areas of campus such as parking spots that aren’t well lit, campus parks that are empty, or even those secret hideaway areas between buildings. While these areas are normally fine during the daytime, they are relatively unsafe after nightfall.
  4. Instead of traveling on foot, ride your bicycle to and from locations that are on and off campus. It’s difficult to rob a person when they’re on two wheels versus two feet.

In the event of an emergency or if you’ve been the victim of robbery, always call 911. If you’ve been arrested for a crime, call us to get out of jail as soon as possible.
