Thanks to the good people at Aquasana, Austinites are being treated to the completely original (and completely free) “Austin Sound & Cinema” series on the lawn of the Long Center throughout this summer. Also known as “Music & Movies on the Lawn,” the six-part series features unique pairings of music and film as bands hit the stage at sunset to perform musical tributes to a given movie, then step aside once the sun goes down for a screening of the flick on Alamo Drafthouse’s enormous inflatable screen. The fourth installment of the series is set for Wednesday, August 14th, featuring the promising pairing of Magnifico—the renowned Queen cover band—and “Flash Gordon,” the timeless ‘80’s classic film for which Queen wrote and performed the soundtrack.
Magnifico is somewhat of a local gem, as the Austin-based cover band has been turning heads at local venues like The Mohawk for years. Earlier this summer, the band played a similar tribute in downtown Austin for the movie “Highlander”—another film featuring the music of Queen—and they promise to follow up that performance with another rocking and nostalgia-soaked show at the Long Center.
The event is open for all ages, and well-behaved pets are welcome to come enjoy the lawn, too. Also, local food trucks will be on hand to provide guests with a variety of dining options, and the Long Center will be selling beer, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic refreshments. However, guests are more than welcome to bring their own (non-alcoholic) beverages and food if they would like. All visitors are also encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to get comfortable for the show!
As always, if you have a little too much fun at (or after) the show, don’t hesitate to give us a call. We’re always around to help you out of a jam, and we pride ourselves on doing so in a professional and friendly fashion.
