MoPac is abhorred by commuters for constant construction and an endless rush hour, but despite its lack of appeal, MoPac has visible roadway signs that cannot be missed… unless you’re driving while intoxicated.

According to an arrest affidavit, 32-year old Mitchell Rivera was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated because he drove his vehicle northbound on South MoPac near William Cannon, resulting in a collision. The incident occurred on Saturday, October 24, 2015 around 2:30 a.m.

When Austin police arrived on the scene, Rivera and the person whose car he crashed into were outside of their respective vehicles and conversing.

According to local news source KXAN, a police affidavit indicated that “Rivera “freely acknowledge driving the wrong way.” [1] Prior to being arrested for suspicion of DWI, Rivera told officers that he drank two liquor shots and four 12 oz. beers.

Although him was locked up in the Travis County Jail, this arrest will not bode well for Rivera who was convicted of a DWI in 2010. Rivera was released on a $5,000 bond and must have court ordered ignition interlock device installed in his vehicle.

Driving while intoxicated will lead you to face jail time, court and legal fees, a damaged reputation, and probation.
