A 30-year old man has been stalking Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer since 2011. Gregory Calvin King was arrested Thursday, March 5, 2015 in Austin, Texas. King had already served a year-long term in a federal prison for stalking and threatening the Yahoo! CEO via Twitter. The stalker showed no signs of putting his compulsion to harm Mayer aside.

According to KVUE, “King sent Mayer unwanted and “sexually graphic” emails from various locations in Austin. Officers believe between Feb. 15 and March 5, King sent 60 messages to Mayer.” [1] After admitting that he sent the lewd emails to Mayer during his 36-month probation period, he was charged with stalking with a previous conviction. King is in the Travis County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

In 2011, the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey(NIPSV) found that “one in 6 women (16.2%) and 1 in 19 men (5.2%) in the United States have experienced stalking victimization at some point during their lifetime in which they felt very fearful or believed that they or someone close to them would be harmed or killed.” [2]

Stalking is a serious crime and can lead to a felony conviction. According to Findlaw.com, stalking can be as simple as repeatedly showing up at an estranged partner’s house after being told to stay away.
